French Bulldog for Sale

A purebred French Bulldog for sale is not just a smaller version of the English Bulldog, but a separate breed developed about a century ago. Smaller English Bulldogs were popular among sailors and lace workers who traveled from England to France and took their pets along. Smaller Bulldogs that were culled by the strict breed standard became the foundation stock for the new breed. The early breeders of the French Bulldog emphasized the personality and health of the breed. They tried to create a dog with a typical Bulldog disposition, but free from its typical health disorders. That’s why French Bulldogs are small, not very massive, and with a smaller head compared to their ancestors.

In the late 19th century, the new breed was very popular among the European nobility and royal families. It was not easy to buy a French Bulldog for sale for the middle class. The breed was associated with wealth and luxury. Ladies kept French Bulldogs as lap dogs and as expensive accessories. Clownish appearance and merry disposition made this breed popular worldwide. The popularity of the French Bulldog vanished and increased with time. Nowadays, there is a tendency towards a population increase of the French Bulldog.

Up to nowadays, French Bulldogs remain very expensive. A pet quality French Bulldog for sale from a good kennel can be bought for about $1000. Show and breeder quality dogs are more expensive. French Bulldog puppies are difficult to produce and bring up, because both the mother and the puppies need special vet assistance and much time and attention of the breeder. Backyard breeders and puppy mills can offer cheaper dogs, but they cannot guarantee a healthy and well-behaved dog.

The purchasing price for a French Bulldog puppy is just a beginning. Even a healthy and obedient dog besides quality food and grooming equipment needs regular vet checks and professional training, which are very costly. A poorly bred French Bulldog puppy may require additional expenses and more attention. Prior to choosing a French Bulldog for sale, think twice if you will be able to provide it with everything it needs.
