Free English Bulldog
Since this breed is very popular, it’s almost impossible to find a high quality free English Bulldog. Experienced and responsible breeders who produce show or breeder quality dogs sell them for great prices. Pet quality puppies are sold at a discount, but the difference between the show and pet quality is very little, because both categories require the same amount of time, efforts, and money to produce and bring up. The main difficulty with breeding the English Bulldog is its massive body and very large head. Many Bulldog males lack drive and the females cannot conceive without artificial insemination. A large head of a quality puppy makes natural labor impossible. Almost all dams need cesarean section. After that operation, they need special care. Some dams cannot take good care of their puppies and they should be hand-fed.
In backyard kennels and puppy mills, English Bulldogs can be cheaper than in reputable kennels, but there is no guarantee that puppies produced in large numbers are free from hereditary disorders and will develop into high quality dogs. Many dogs bought from disreputable sources end up in rescues or even in shelters. Breed rescues also cannot offer a free English Bulldog for adoption, because they spend much on rehabilitating, feeding, and training homeless purebred dogs.
Sometimes, purebred dogs get into shelters. It happens if a dog loses the way home and becomes stray. People find homeless dogs in the streets and put them into shelters where they wait for their owners or anyone who wants to save them. It’s a good chance to get a homeless free English Bulldog.
Some Bulldog owners breed their dogs neither for profit nor for the sake of the improvement of the breed, but because they want to have puppies. When the puppies grow up, they can present them to friends. Even a very responsible owner of a purebred dog can face financial or personal problems that make it impossible to keep the dog any longer. Instead of giving the dog up to the rescue, they search for a new loving family for the dog and can present a free English Bulldog to anyone who would like to own it.
