Therefore the dogs require early socialization so as to make the dog obedient. The bulldog must understand it's "place" in the human pack otherwise it can become difficult to handle. One of the most usual health problems with the Bulldogs are breathing problems because of the structure of their muzzle that is very short; thus some representatives have small windpipes as well. The other problem is poor eyesight, and the Bulldogs are very susceptible to heat strokes in warm weather, hot rooms, and overheated cars.

As the coat is rather short the dogs are also very cold sensitive. Mothers usually have problems when delivering the puppies as the latter have broad heads and they are often delivered by caesarian section because of it. The digestive system of the dog is very active and may be offensive to people with sensitive noses. As with many other dogs, there are also hip and knee problems. All Bulldogs are also susceptible to skin infections.
